In the late 1990's Phantom Productions, Inc. began tracking sales of vintage reel to reel tape recorders, remotes, a few audio mixers and microphones. We did this to provide some perspective on the vintage collection we are creating. It has been a great asset for purchasing items and assisted us in setting reasonable selling prices on surplus items. Our sources have included on-line bulletin boards, ads in trade publications, on-line auctions and estate sales. In tracking tape recorders, we have strived to avoid units that were listed as having problems or were not in good cosmetic shape. We also do not list items that are listed for "local pickup only" as we feel that has a limited purchaser market.

We began receiving requests for our opinion on the value of vintage items. It's difficult to place an accurate value due to the many variables with each item. However, over time, our data can provide a good estimate, so we decided to make the information more available.

This data base now has over 16,300 items (as of 01/01/10) and is growing daily. By brand we have: Akai - 800+; Ampex - 1200+; Electro Voice - 800+; Pioneer - 1,000+; ReVox - 600+; Shure - 600+; Sony - 1300+; Teac - 2600+; Tascam - 500+; Technics - 550+! Others include: Concertone, Dokorder, Fostex, Roberts, Studer and more. New information is added daily as we find it.

TO ORDER: (Please note that what you are paying for is information from Phantom's data base on past sales of vintage recording equipment. These are NOT items that are for sale from Phantom, only price estimates!)

1) Check the Phantom MASTER Vintage Database List. This list reflects the vintage items we have sufficient data to provide a price history quote. If the item you are interested in knowing about is not on the list, we don't have enough information for a reasonable quote. However, email us or check back, as the list is growing all the time.

2) Decide how many quotes you want. Your choices are one (1), or five (5) and must be made from the list. Your purchase will generate an email to us and we'll respond to your email address ASAP (usually within 24 hours) with the information from the Phantom Vintage Database. We will provide an average sale price from our tracking records, as well as the highest price we've tracked. Additionally, we will provide the average sale in the past 6 months (if there is info in our data base). There are many recorders we have not tracked, so the list is not all inclusive.
